Tour Overview

Why you'll love this tour

The 4-Day Garden Route Getaway gives the route more breathing room, linking Cape Town with Oudtshoorn, Knysna, Tsitsikamma and selected coast and forest stops.

It suits travellers who want the Garden Route to feel like a proper overland trip rather than a fast transfer between attractions. The extra day helps with pacing, meals, viewpoints and time in the places that make the region memorable.

Your guide can adjust the balance between nature, small towns, wildlife, beaches and scenic drives. It is still a travel-heavy route, but the extra night makes the experience more comfortable.

Trip Itinerary

We’ll start our four-day journey from your Cape Town accommodation and make our way east through the lush Robertson Winelands. En route, you’ll have a wine tasting experience at a local vineyard — a perfect way to begin the adventure. Afterward, we continue into the Klein Karoo to Oudtshoorn, famous for its ostrich farming culture. Stretch your legs on a visit to a working ostrich farm and later explore the awe-inspiring Cango Caves, a vast underground labyrinth of limestone chambers. Tonight we settle into local accommodation in Oudtshoorn with dinner and plenty of room to relax.

After breakfast, we’ll spend the morning soaking up more of Oudtshoorn before departing for the magical Garden Route coastline. Our drive takes us through winding mountain passes to the lagoon town of Knysna, framed by ancient forests and shimmering waters. You’ll visit cliff-top viewpoints like the Knysna Heads and enjoy time at the vibrant waterfront — perfect for lunch and a stroll among boutique shops. The evening is free to soak in the town’s charm and enjoy dinner with sunset views.

Today’s journey ventures into the heart of natural beauty. We’ll explore Tsitsikamma Nature Reserve, where towering indigenous forests, dramatic river gorges and rugged coastlines define the landscape. If you’d like, optional visits to wildlife havens such as Monkeyland or Birds of Eden can be arranged to meet curious primates and colourful birds. Then it’s on to Plettenberg Bay, known for its pristine beaches and relaxed seaside vibe. In the evening, we head back toward the Knysna region for another overnight stay.

On our final day, we’ll travel to Mossel Bay, a historic coastal town with a rich maritime heritage. Here, you’ll take part in an exciting safari game drive at a nearby game reserve, offering the chance to spot free-roaming wildlife — from antelope to perhaps rhinos and more — in a relaxed and natural setting. With the beauty of Africa’s big landscapes still fresh in your mind, we then begin the drive back to Cape Town, concluding this memorable Garden Route experience.

The Garden Route is beautiful year-round, but spring (September–November) and autumn (March–May) offer especially pleasant weather, lush landscapes and mild sea breezes that make exploring forests and shorelines delightful.
